Prof Adam El-Gamel has broad training in Cardiothoracic surgery. He trained in surgery and Cardiac surgery at the Hammersmith Hospital London, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and Manchester Royal Infirmary Manchester. He was a lecturer and a Winchester fellow at Yale University USA.
Professor Adam El-Gamel
Prof El-Gamel has held the position of Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Waikato District Health Board Hamilton NZ since 2012. He has held academic positions as an Associate Professor at Auckland University and the Chair of Cardiothoracic surgery at Waikato University. He also was appointed to lead NZ Cardiac Network for the ministry of health until 2018, became the NZ representative for ANZSCT 2015-2018, and until recently has been the practice assessor for NZ medical council.
Prior to immigrating to NZ in 2009, Prof El-Gamel was a consultant cardiac surgeon and director of minimally invasive valve Surgery at Kings’ College Hospital, London. He also held a senior lecturer position at the university, and he became Royal College Examiner for the board of Cardiothoracic surgery.
After 30 years of practising Cardiothoracic Surgery, Prof El-Gamel still enjoys participating in complex and challenging cardiothoracic surgical procedures. He loves interacting with patients and their families, and appreciates working with a team of physicians, perfusionists, nurses, and other medical professionals who share a commitment to provide the best medical care possible.
